CranioSacral Therapy For Animals

The Craniosacral Approach for Animals was designed based on the works of Drs. Still, Sutherland, Magoun and Upledger. In 1990, after working with a client with low back pain who benefitting from CST, the client asked if this might also help her dog who was suffering from a similar problem.

After success with the dog and CST, work was continued with many other animals, including horses also showing similar beneficial results. There was no initial intention of developing or teaching a class on animals, which allowed the freedom to develop work with animals in a natural and organic fashion.

CranioSacral Therapy works by helping your animal’s natural healing mechanisms dissipate the negative effects of stress on the central nervous system. This is accomplished by utilizing a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system.

The CranioSacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding and protecting your animal's brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth (which make up the cranium) down to the tailbone area (the sacrum). Any imbalance or dysfunction in the CranioSacral system can cause sensory, motor or neurological disabilities.

Like the pulse of the cardiovascular system, the CranioSacral system has a rhythm that can be felt throughout your animal’s body. Using a very light touch, Polly monitors this rhythm at key points on your animal's body to pinpoint the source of an obstruction. Once a source has been determined, Polly assists the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help your animal's body self-correct.

This simple action is often all it takes to remove an obstruction in your animal's CranioSacral system. CranioSacral therapy may also be combined with other complementary therapies to help restore your animal's body to its optimum functioning level
