Understanding and Helping Sensory Processing Disorders
Do you wish you knew how to how to better understand the child (or the children with whom you work as professional)? Do you wish you knew how you could help, and how you could help yourself and your family? This class is designed to help you do just that.
This introductory workshop details the history, physiology and anatomy of sensory registration and integration/processing in the brain and its impact upon our thought processes, emotions, reactions and behavior. Participants will gain a practical understanding of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) to be able to effectively meet their children's/client's where they are:
1. providing the appropriate sensory input when needed
2. adapting the environment to avoid sensory overload
3. observing/problem-solving what the individual child may need to help maintain or regain neurological organization.
Students will learn through lecture, visual aides, study guide, demonstration, experiential labs and practical aides.
